The History of Pink Lady® Apples
John Cripps is the plant breeder who naturally cross-bred the first ever Cripps Pink apple in Australia in 1973. Mr. Cripps had the ingenious idea to cross a Golden Delicious and a Lady Williams, so creating this delicious new variety. The best of these apples were then branded Pink Lady®. Only the best apples are selected, hand-picked, and given the Pink Lady® seal of approval: our pink, heart-shaped sticker.
Classic Tastemaker, Timeless appeal.
Developed in Western Australia, the Pink Lady® is a cross of Golden Delicious and Lady Williams. Crisp, cool autumn nights help bring out its bright, namesake coloring. Firm, crisp flesh and a unique, tangy-tart, sweet flavor are characteristic of this apple. Whether eaten as a snack, or used for baking, this variety has received high marks in consumer tastings. Pink Lady® is the last apple harvested in Washington State in late October.
200 Days of Sun
Pink Lady® apples are always the first to blossom and last to be harvested, each one soaking up 200 days of sunshine. It’s this generous growing time on the tree that gives Pink Lady® its gorgeous, rosy blush.
Today, there are orchards in France, Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, and Argentina. These regions boast the best climate and soil quality for producing your favorite Pink Lady® apples.
